Uruguay has no adult-content age-verification law, no social-media minor-access restriction, no app-store age-verification requirement, and no age-appropriate design code in force. The Código de la Niñez y la Adolescencia (Ley N° 17.823 of 2004), read in full, sets Uruguay's general framework for children's health, education, family, and labor rights but contains no reference to the internet, an online service, or an age-verification or age-gating duty.

Ley N° 17.815 of 2004 criminalises producing, distributing, and facilitating the distribution of child-sexual-abuse material and paying or contributing to a minor's sexual exploitation, but imposes no age-verification or age-gating duty on a publisher, platform, or app store.

As of September 2026 a bill would set a minimum age of fifteen for holding a social-media account and require platforms to implement reasonable, proportionate, and auditable age-verification mechanisms, introduced in the Chamber of Representatives by a single deputy in August 2026; it had not passed either chamber of the General Assembly.
