National jurisdiction · as of 2026-09-22

Eritrea has no adult-content age-verification law, social-media minor-access restriction, app-store age-verification requirement, or age-appropriate design code, and no numbered bill, Gazette citation, or public draft text proposing such a regime is known.

The Penal Code of the State of Eritrea (2015), read in full, defines a child offender as a person under twelve years of age and a juvenile offender as a person twelve or more and under eighteen at the time of an alleged offence, and separately criminalizes sexual offences, trafficking, and neglect involving a minor, but its text contains no reference to the internet, a website, social media, or an application store, and no provision addresses an online service, a platform, a distributor, or a device maker.

The Civil Code of the State of Eritrea (2015), also read in full, sets the general age of majority and the organs that protect a minor's civil capacity, such as a guardian and a family council, and its copyright provisions address reproducing a printed work in digital form, including on the internet, without attaching an age-verification, access-control, or minor-protection duty to that reproduction.

Eritrea has enacted no telecommunications, electronic-transactions, information-technology, broadcasting, or press-specific statute of any kind: the WIPO Lex member profile for Eritrea lists two national laws in total, the 2015 Civil Code and a 1993 provisional commercial and civil code extract, plus the 1997 Constitution as the jurisdiction's sole framework instrument, and no additional national law naming a communications medium, a digital service, or a minor's access to one.
