Belgium

National jurisdiction · as of 2026-09-06

Belgium has no adult-content age-verification statute, social-media minor-access restriction, app-store age-verification requirement, or age-appropriate design code. The minor's digital-consent age for information-society services is set by the Act of 30 July 2018 on the protection of personal data, and is described in this jurisdiction's privacy-topic record rather than repeated here.

Belgium's Penal Code criminalises producing or distributing extremely pornographic or violent content, with an aggravated tier where it is directed at a minor or a vulnerable person, but that prohibition binds the conduct itself rather than imposing an age-verification or age-gating duty on a service.

Belgium's communities regulate broadcast and on-demand audiovisual media through their own decrees, transposing the EU Audiovisual Media Services Directive's minor-protection provisions, but no age-verification or age-gating statute distinct from that framework is described here.
